replacing notach gauge with tach gauge?!

Hello, I have a 1999corolla CE w/notach cluster and I been looking to replace it with a cluster with tach... this is the first time I intend to try some modification....
I have an automatic of course... basically I want to replace it so I can get that look...
my question is, will the tach work on a car that has no tach cluster???

You can surely make it work- a tach takes its reading from around the coil. You may have do a slight bit of wiring, but that would probably be the easiest part

When I replaced the instument cluster in my 95, it origionaly had no tach. I had to replace the speedo anyway, so I grabbed one with a tach. It was pretty much "Plug and Play", no work needed.

in '99s the wiring is there... It will be plug and play. Just buy one and swap it over...

as spud said, the wiring is there.

the only "tricky" part is moving your odometer to the new cluster. You take the front bezel off and unscrew the speedo unit from the back (there's 6 or 7 screws). the speedo unit contains the odometer. Do the same on the other cluster and switch the speedo units.

you also MIGHT need to switch some wires on the harness. I installed mine and the right turn signal lit up when the rear defroster turned on. Correct it by following the traces back to the terminal and referencing the new cluster to the old. switch the wires as necessary.

the whole thing should take 10-15 minutes, even with the minor rewiring.

There's only 5 screws to the back of speedo.

So you got a 01 cluster. Switching wires is required when putting a 98-00 cluster into a 01-02 or vice versa. Even that may not completely fix everything. Some soldering on the gauge itself may be required.
