Yesterday I drove to Ottawa in morning and return to Toronto at evening. In the beginning of my trip my car can't accelerate over 120km, cos when it hit 120km I can feel the car is shaking(no problem at 100km and 110km). On my return trip since most cars are traveling at 140km min...I start to accelerate, then I can smell some smell(seems like some plastic burns), then my hesiatate and crusing at 100kms....10 mins later I acclerate again and suddenly everything seems ok no more shaking....and yet I can crusing at 140km all the way back to Toronto....
Today I check under hood except the coolant level is a bit low everything is ok...
Anyway knows what happens on my car?
Originally posted by Deep Have you had to top up your coolant often? Its a long shot but it could be a bad head gasket, I'd look at other things first but its a possibility.
check the compression, somethign's not right
how's the idle? notice difference in rpm at cruise and accelerating? maybe your clutch is dead/slipping
That's a good place to start, an unballanced tire(s) can cause shaking at very specific speeds. My old Camry needed a ballance and new tires and it would shake at 75-85mph but smooth out at 90. But that shouldn't cause a burning smell or make you unable to accelerate, just cause shaking so...

the other thing i can think of is timing belt....
balancing wheel are very important.....on my 323, (which i hardly worked on) vibrated at 120km/h than ran smooth till 140km/h....
un balnaced wheel creates different vibration pattern...
When I first bought my AE92 I had the exact same problem, I would drive to St. Catharines and by the time I'd get there my legs and arms would be numb because of the vibration in the car. I tried everything (Although I didn't really know that much about the car then).
I took it to Crappy Tire (didn't know better at the time) and they told me the front axel was bent!! WHAT??
Anyways, a few months later I got a flat so I decided to change the tires since the tires were shitty anyway, It turned out that two of the tires had flat spots on them which is what cause all the vibration. As soon as the new tires went in, the car drove like it had no wheels!
Check your tires for flat spots and blanace the tires (check for warps in your wheels). From what you're saying, it's you that didn't want to go over Km/h120 and not the car, So I don't think it's engine related...
Good luck and keep us updated
