i've seen knockoff golf clubs before. but since i'm new to all these aftermarket stuff for cars, is it common to have knockoff RIMS???

chk out this pic. and my first reaction was these look pretty close to watanabes.

got these off of a site that builds rally cars.

edit: before those of you that like to jump the gun and say these guys are selling "rice" stuff or whatever, pls do take note that the place is OWNED and operated by the Sprongls.

Well, it's pretty common to have fake rims. I mean for a price of one real Volk TE37, you could have a set of Rotas, and given the fact that you might accidentally hit it somewhere and bust it, I'd atleast take the rota

Hey, Rota's aren't bad at all...they're just as durable as any other good quality wheel. They're OEM equipment some cars and they're made in the Philippines, so if they can withstand the big-ass potholes over there, they definitely can withstand some abuse.

I may be a distributor for these wheels in small quantities in a few months. Let me know if you guys are intested.

Those aren't really knockoffs, they're just Compomotive's ML version of a classic design that's been around forever. Other companies that make similar 8 spoke wheels to the RS Wattanabe would be Black Racing, Panasport and of course Compomotive. Compomotives are really strong btw, I almost bought a set of 15x6/15x7 MO's for my red MR2 but they're just too expensive. Wattanabe's straight from Japan would probably be the same price as after the rediculous Four Star markup, since they're the distributor for the area.
Try wheelchoice.com if you really want these.

I believe the original version of the banaspoke rim was the Mini Lite and was it made by Compomotive? I'm not sure but one thing I am pretty sure of is that it was british, all these panasports and watanabes etc. are actually the clones.

yeah...there are really no knock-offs unless your dealing with Kosei or the Rota one-off-mf10's....or with any of those Cali-spawned-japanese-sounding-company names...

Well I would know the potholes there, cuz I'm currently living there  crazy roads over here, full of not potholes, but craters! ;P
yeah, well toyotas stock alloys are afaik made by Rota (not sure on all models, but the round holed ones) and BMW uses rota made OEM rims  they're ok, but heck I cant find a right offset for my car in GRID model.

I just bought an 87 SR5 and it came with these Enkei's that look awfully similar to RS Watanabe's. Anybody know what model they are?[IMG][/IMG]
