I'm really tempted by the Matrix XRS, Any word on when the car hits the streets?

I think it looks like a real interesting concept. I'm thinking about purchasing one (providing I can get my finances in order)

Around summertime. There's a TV commericial for it, saying when the they'll release it.

I personally thinks a okay average AWD. I would think it would be greater if they put more horses in it and looked different than the Pontiac Vibe.

Matrix and Vibe are practicially the same car.

Actually, the Matrix is coming out tomorrow (Feb 07,2002) at a Toyota dealer near you!

Prices are...

26 000$ for XRS 180 hp model

24 000$ for XR AWD 123hp model

17 000$ for XR 130 hp model

Bare in mind that these are the prices for base model with no options, transportation and taxes.

Just got my new Matrix Thursday, already planning lots of mods, love it too! I am very impressed with how well it handle being so tall, will be lowered soon with bigger wheels as well.
This is my show car for my business and a daily driver, just like my 96 Tacoma featured in this months Mobile Entertainment, only this one will be alot more custom and flashy. The tacoma was built for usability and street class IASCA, the Matix is being built to a much higher level of showability but still have plenty of usefulness in daily driving.
Nice forum by the way, my first post, will be back

Not sure why mig sig did not show up but here is a bit what I will have in the matrix or at least trying to stuff into it and still have alot of cargo room.

-4 IDMAX 10'
-4 Arc Audio 1500 DRs
-2 Arc Audio 4150 CXLRs
-Rainbow Reference in kick panels
-2 or 4 IDX62 midbasses in the doors
-ID One processor when available
-Apline 7999 HU, when out, now using 7969
-DVD, X Box, several monitors
-Batcap 800's

Dammmmm, likeing this new "car" so much I am torn about what to do with it! The idea of a fast street racer mini-mini-van looking ride is very interesting. I am going to make if farily fast but all the audio gear going will add at least 250 lbs!
I may rethink this whole concept and do something lighter now that I have had a couple of days to play around with it on some decent roads. This thing is really amazing for being so tall.
I guess it helps alot that most of the glass is rather small, keeps the roll center lower than big windows would have done. I am looking for some new springs, no luck yet though.
I want bigger wheels for style, this is my daily driver but will be in some major car shows, looking into light 18's and found the Toyp proxis S1 in 225/40/18 are the right diameter and only 22 lbs, not bad for 18's. Found some 18.5 lbs wheels, the Enkei RPM2 in black chrome I like to, about as lite as I can afford, well, will be a bit high.
Not much else on the market yet but I am sure in time to be able to get some great brakes, TRD supercharger, etc. I have met Eric at EL Prototypes, I will see what he has to offer in the way of chips, etc tomorrow when I stop by.
Man I am getting the bug to make this thing hot, my first fast car was my 72 510 way back in 76!

Thanks for the welcome, I will be glad to help anyone I can, sometimes exceptionally busy but I will get back to you as soon as I can.

raamaudio, if you can get the SCC from a few months ago with their Matrix project you will find that alot of parts between the Celica and Matrix are interchangeable.

The car has been at E.L.Prototypes since Monday night, headers, cold air intake, and strut brace are in the works right now. After those are done and the dyno results are in a turbo system will be the next project. It has a huge area for an intercooler behind the lower grill, rather obvious it was designed that way on purposes!!! This gives them a chance to play with a Matrix and me a chance to be one of the first with a hot one SCC is aware of and very interested in what is going on with it. I am looking for the issue, will have to buy one from them it looks like, if anyone here happens to have it and wants to part with it, I am willing to give a great deal on a roll of my RAAMmat for it, I want the poster to!
Thanks on the heads up on the celica parts too!
