Corolla v6? v8?

Lately my 84 sr-5 has been cosuming much fuel since i got it, i get around 24 mpg and i already put in a k&n filter, new fuel filter, new spark plugs and it keeps consuming fuel like a v6, anyone know what might be other possible fixes?

Will changing the rotorcap and wires help?

How did the plugs look when you pulled them?
How is your idle?
Does the car smoke?
Are you burning/losing oil?

I wonder what the mileage on that engine is.. maybe it's time for a new one.

Smile

When i 1st got my corolla, it clocked in at 164,596 K to be exact, now after 4 months it has 170,789 K on the clock'.

Engine idles smooth, it doesn't burn any oil, but it looks like parts haven't been replaced or maintained for a while so I gave it a little tune up and the car is coming out great, it's the cleanest white s5 in the County believe me!

No body damage at all, still the original perfect white glossy paint, some 13 inch steel light JDM mark SS rims, and it still has the oldschool blue CA license plates. interior is perfect clean! no tears except the dash has little cracks here and there but everything works.

I've replaced everything myself except cap and rotor which looks like needs to be cleaned or replaced, because when I first drove my car, i was getting around 32 mpg on hwy now i get like 23 or 20 it's consuming my fuel like a V6!! argh!!

i was hoping if I do get that replaced and some new wires if that would help, and after I do that would I have to set the timing again? I never replaced a rotor cap for a 4a-c engine can anyone help?

thanx

That will help.
Cap, Rotor, and wires are definitley required basic maintenance.

As for the timing....? Sounds like you should get yourself a manual if you are going to work on your car even a little. My Haynes manual is the best investment I have made for my car. It will tell you all the little things like Torque specs and how to set your timing and all that crap, very usefull
