Seatbelt warning light flashes

Hi,

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla. Nowadays even when I have the seatbelt on, the seatbelt warning light flashes. This doesn't happen all the time but still happens very often. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Does it just do this when you first get into the car or all the time?

Has it always done that?

I remember my dads 89 Olds used to do that when ever you just got into the car but it would shut off when you start driving. So some cars are suppsed to do that. I think it is just to remind every one to put their seat belts on before you set off.

My light stays on until I stop driving. Originally it would blink when I didn't have my seatbelt on and would stop once I buckle up. Nowadays once it comes on it stays like that. Doesn't happen all the time though. Must be a loose contact somewhere.

Wish I had better news

I have a '98 Corolla LE with 118K miles. The seat belt light started flashing intermittently (like yours) at about 40K. By the time I hit 60K it flashed all the time the engine was on....and it is flashing still! Dlr said it was relay in seat belt harness. Only fix is to replace entire harness at a cost of $250 - 300.

Alright I went and looked at mine, same problem. I'm not going to replace the whole seat belt so. On Toyota Corolla 1998 I took of panel covering seat belt on drivers side. Has two plugs going into belt harness. One yellow one white. The yellow on has a metal clip holding it on, that is the air bad one so leave alone. White one is seat belt light, unpluged and jammed small U shaped piece of paperclip into contact holes and taped up. Good enough for me, no more blinking seat belt light

Does that mean the air bag is also disabled?
