New engine?

My girlfriend bought a Corolla a couple of weeks ago and the guy she bought it from said that he had installed a newer engine about 3 months ago. It is an '89 w/ the 4af engine. What can I look at to see if it is a newer engine?

thanks for the bump.
The engine obviously has a brand new timing belt and they guy we bought it from showed us the reciept for that.
And, the odometer says 200k, but the engine runs very well (he said the engine had about 65k). I know that doesn't mean much with Toyota's though.
Does anyone know of a way to check if the engine in the car is different then the one that came from the factory? I remember watching an episode of the Cosby show where Claire proved Denise was ripped off by the mechanics becuase they said they replaced the engine, but all they did was bolt some kind of serial number over the old. I guess I would have to know they old serial number though wouldn't I?
ANy easy ways to tell guys?

Well the old serial number is engraved on the block, so it would be hard to swap that. You can check if the VIN tag has the same chassis number as the car. HEhe, maybe you got lucky and they swapped in a 4A-GE 20V or a GZE D
