want to lower a 99 corolla

whats up yall

ok since i cant sell it, im gonna keep it and lower it. yes ive already searched the forums and did not find answers to my questions, so dont tell me to use the search function. dont know a lot about lowering but here goes.

i want to lower it an inch or so, maybe inch and a half at the most. it doesnt look like theres a whole lot of room to lower with, cuz i can feel it bottom out over speed bumps. i want to keep a decent ride, and i dont want it to bounce at all. my friend has a 99 civic ex, with 17s, lowered 1.5" and it rides good and doesnt bounce at all. i think he has stock shocks too, not sure though. and also would i need an alignment afterwards? someone told me the 99s alignment isnt affected by ride height. ive got 17s and everything else is stock. if i did lower it, do i need new shocks? which spring/shocks combos work best? thanks for any info or experience u might have,

PJ

Well.... You gotta decide if you want coilovers or regular springs... coilovers have their advantage.

Tein's give a nice drop, but more than you wanted, I think they're about 2.25. TRD springs give a nice 1-1.25" drop and so do Eibach's. More than likely your buddy has new struts, bouncing is a result of missmatched spring rates and damping. Ie, the rate is too high for the springs but not high enough for the struts. Talk to the guys at www.elementautoworks.com and tell them Deep referred you and I'm sure they can find whatever you're looking for.

wow thanks yall, i didnt know those sites were there. i think im going to go with the eibach set, i found a guy selling on ebay for $165. i keep seeing that it says "lowering will not affect suspension geometry" does this mean i wont need alignment?

It will affect it. Claiming that is bulls#it, it will always alter it, have the alignment checked out afterwards.

yeah you will need alignment. its also a good idea to get an eibach camber kit from tirerack.com. if you want 1.5" drop I suggest getting H&R springs.
