Ok thanks for that, how about weight? Also would it be a good candidate for a 4A-GZE swap? Would it be a direct bolt in?? If so do you know any sites out there that people have dropped a 4agz in a AE92?......thanks
ok... a twin cam means that both the cams (intake and exhaust)are designed the same... in the case of a toyota F series head, they are NOT the same......
first off there is only one cam gear running on the belt.... the second cam is running off of the cam that IS running off the belt (don't believe me? look on a 4a-fe, you'll see one gear... then open the oil cap and you'll see the other gear... under the valve cover).... so that alone makes you realize it's not a TWIN cam (because, obviously, they aren't the same)
also, since a twin cam has both cams that run off the belt, they both run in the same direction... but since the 2nd cam on an F series head runs off of the other one, it rotates in the OPPOSITE direction as the cam running it (the only way for the teeth of the gears to run is if the 2 cams are running opposite)
sonic is a good guy to get JDM parts from.... i have dealt with him

^^OK man I didn't know that at all, i thought "twin cam" was just a marketing term for DOHC. So a 4a-ge is DOCH, but also twin cam, because the cams are the same and run in the same direction? But my 1zz-fe is DOHC but not twin cam, because the intake and exhaust cams run in different directions? Is that the idea
yeah, thats correct... at least for the design on the 4/7a-fe, 3/5s-fe that i know of.... i haven't taken a close look at the design on the newer zz motors, but i'm assuming it's very similar.....
the GE heads generally are twin cams (4a-ge, 3s-gte, 7m-g(t)e, etc)

Wait wait... so the cams spin in opposite directions in the 4A-FE? Web Cams website says that the 4A-GE and 4A-FE can use the same cams. On a more agressively timed cam, that'd totally screw things up! Yikes.... Good thing we went with the GZE first....

i haven't SEEN them do this.... but it's the only way it would work (unless there's a 3rd hidden cam).... there isn't a belt under the valve cover.... as i'm sure you know one is driven directly off of the other (cam, that is)..... now imagine (take your fingers and make them into "gears" from each hand) trying to make 2 things geared together spinning in the same direction... doesn't work!
also, i believe the cams themselves are a bit smaller on the F series heads as well..... you can re-grind them on the 4/7a-fe and gain performance that way though
