I was looking at the new corolla type S. I was wondering if it had the same problem as the other corollas.
at high speed (above and including 120km/h) the wheel feels very light and the suspension feels very light and bouncy.
or is it just my 98 corolla thats giving the problem?
Secondly,
i was wondering if it had different suspension/engine than the normal rollas.
i looked it up on the net
and all 3 versions of the rolla have the 127hp engine so i was just wondering.

anyone have comments about the car?

From what I saw at the Montreal Auto show, the car doesn't even have 4 wheel independent suspension (new 2003 model). But, from people who have already test driven the car, the handling is far superior to the prior model.

Promising or not, we'll have to see.

well...i think u will have no problem (steering feel light)when u drive the 2003 corolla it is because the car is heavier (about 1625kg) but i am not sure the MacPherson susp. @front with torsion bar & spring and shocks @ rear will make it stiff when u travel @ highspeed.

hey, I have a '98 and it was prety bad at 120..........until we got the alignment checked.

Apparently all '98 Corollas have factory defective alignment settings, ours was busting the belts in the back tires it was sooo bad. Toyota will not own up to this problem. I heard it from a tire shop, the guy refused to sell me tires until I got the alignment corrected. I took it to Canadian Tire and had them do the alignment.....it's awesome now. It's great at 120, I just want to drive it really fast now  It's also alot quieter at crusing speeds. The alignment was causing the tires to generate quite a bit of noise.

Try an alignment!

(a good alignment made a big difference on my old Corolla too)

ooh yeah, all cars get touchy going over the grooves/sunken strips left by all the heavy tractor trailers on the 401 BTW. The wider and lower the profile of your tire the worst it will get.

2003 looks better in person than it does in the pictures.

I like the Matrix, it's OK. Might get a 4wd auto for family daily driver to replace the '98....might drive the '98 til it drops

Is that alignment thing true? If so, does that apply to the 2000 Corolla also? And is it just me or does the back suspension of the 2000 Corolla really suck? It seems to bottom out a lot.

The stock springs are VERY soft on 98-2002 Corolla's...
I've seen many that seem to be sagging in the rear end....
Mine, luckily doesn't seem to have this problem.
But I don't know what you guys are talking about with the aligment problems and shuddering at higgh speeds???
I drive mine fast all the time and have never noticed a problem... It's actually really smooth on the highway..
and Ive had it up to 170-180 a couple of times and haven't had a problem.

it doesn't really shudder
it just feels really loose, and the springs feel soo soft, its like boucning when you go over a bump..
and in turns it tends to dig in..
its not very pleasant.
it rolls a lot

this is a problem specifically with '98 model, bzride is yours a '98? And I'm sure it would not have happened to all the cars, just quite a few of them.

The rear is soo bad, I used to almost loose control of the car when driving on ice cause the backend would start to shimmy left to right, I couldn't figure it out.. until I went to buy tires.

I swear the diff after the alignment is UNBELIEVABLE!

Neil
