Hey, someone from my school says he can get me a 4A-GE 20v Silvertop engine with transmission, wiring harness, and ECU for 1000 Canadian dollars. I'm wondering if this is a good deal or not and if anyone has any experience with the silvertop if they could share. I want to know how it performs etc. Thanks in advance.
that's a STEAL! , if the wiring harness is not cut!
COMMENT: if u like to rev then this the perfect motor for u! 160hp to the flywheel is not bad, not bad at all. if u'r gonna get it, make sure u install it properly coz i'v seen 20V's that are slower than the 16V's coz they're not properly installed. for an AE92, the swap is easy, i heard, but i don't know what d differences r between GT-S and SR5 when it comes to the engine bay.(ie. motor mounts). but it's a very good motor. and have fun man!

IMO, not worth it. They're more rare and therefore more expensive, the compression is higher by 0.5 points meaning that you'll be running 94 octane all the time. For the money that you would spend on the Blacktop, why not get bolt-ons for the Silvertop? The only benefit I can see with the Blacktop is a slightly higher redline and the lack of AFM (although you probably won't make enough power for it to become a restriction.)
micro is 100% correct.... it's a decent deal IF and only if the wiring isn't cut... if it is,, then you'll be out for a long time waiting for that one or 2 plugs (or an entire harness).... i know a guy who is STILL having his 20V into his 90 celica ST after over 4 months because he needed an uncut harness......

So I should take him up on the offer if the wiring harness isn't cut? Also, could any performance shop be able to set it all up? I'm not good enough with cars yet and don't have the tools.
