1990 SR5 questions

Hey, I was just wondering if others thought it would be worthwhile to modify an AE92 SR5? Its pretty gutless stock, but would it be worth the money for breathing mods? I don't want an incredibly fast car, just something that can pick up speed decently once in awhile. I don't speed around all the time but sometimes I get an urge . Also, the engine has 206000 kms on it. Thanks

Its human nature to want something better/good for your car... does not hafto be speed, but little things like rear disc brakes, skirts or spoiler? etc etc...

don't get me wrong, there actually 3 SR5 owner on this board who lovess their SR5.

i would recommand getting the GTS, since you have extra option on it...
later on, you might find out why i recommad the GTS.

sure! u wanna mod that 4afe u just pop on a turbo and there u go!

other than that, u wont have any other parts that truely add power. i highly doubt anyone makes cams for a 4af...and i doubt that anyone makes bottom end stuff for 4af.... not many people do these up when the 4ag is a much more potent motor... in addition, the sr5 platform is lacking many things that the gts has....and trasfering those parts over will cost u more than an actual gts in the long run.

but if only straight lines are your concern...turbo that bish

yes, i do like my SR5.... i wish i had gotten a GTS (to an extent.. thougth if i had a 90 GTS instead i wouldn't be nearly as tempted to go for a 4a-gze...)

boro - i dunno if anyone actually makes cams or not... but i know you can (if he has any) get a modded ECU from racer25 (shawn) on corolla-racing.com which removes the revlimeter, speedlimiter (on those that have them.... the ae92 doesn't), and changes a few other things.... along with that you can regrind the cams.... those 2 things will allow you to rev to around 7,000.....

you could also get the GTS c52 tranny, it'll help the pickup... open it up by making it breathe better (i/h/e), get some 4a-ge smallport injectors and fuel rail along with a FPR... all of those would make it quite a bit quicker on the pickup

that being said, doing that would probably come closer to $1,000US or so.... and for a bit more you could just get a 4a-gze

i would reccomend upgrading the suspension.... these handle incredibly.... i've outhandled MANY cars that i shouldn't be able to on and off the street

I'm not very knowledgeable of suspensions etc. What did you do to yours to make it handle so well?
