changed spark plugs... engine light came on.

i changed my spark plugs recently and put in champion brand spark plugs. I turned the ignition on after replacing them and the engine light was lit on the dashboard. I reset the engine light by taking out the fuse, under the hood, for ten seconds, then replacing it. The engine light came back on after 5 minutes of driving. Could it be one of the new spark plugs causing the engine light to come on or could it be just coincidence that something screwed up at the exact same time i put in new plugs? I do not have a code scanner at home, so i can't get the codes unless i take it to a garage. The Toyota manual recommends NGK spark plugs. so could it be the Champion spark plugs causing the problem?

its probably not from using Champions.. but you should've used NGK or Denso plugs.

maybe now that the motor has new plugs, something else is not keeping up with it.. did you change the wires too?

I didn't change the spark plug wires

but i'm wondering maybe there was a defective spark plug. I did not inspect the champion spark plugs to closely, even though i did gap them to .031 as the manual stated. Could it be a crack or imperfection in the new plugs? My car is a 1997 corolla 1.6L 4 door sedan.
