Looking to buy 82 GTS

I found a stright 84 SR5 for 900$. All it needs are a new fender and grill, and some bondo/rust fix. It has 50k miles on it and purrs perfectly at idle.

The problem is that once you put your foot on the gass to bring up the idle a little more to get moving the engine stutters. Could this be due to needing new plugs/wiress or what?

If i end up buying it i will probally bondo up the holes and paint it flat black like sport compact car's s13.

Thanks for any help given to the noob.
Looks like this, cept it has louvers(sp ) and is not a twin cam. That pic is an AE86 isnt it? Not a huge toyota guy, but overly willing to learn.

What suspension setups are available for these and where can i find em?

Yup thats an AE86... If the car runs nice on idle, it most likely wont be plugs/wires. I woul look at the fuel delivery system. Either the filter or the pump. a pump only pumping half of what it should will be fine at idle, but it will stall when you hit the gas due to too much air, and not enough fuel. Same will happen if the filter is jammed up.

good luck.

So are you the guy who bought that $900 White SR5 hatch back that was listed on auto trader? I was thinking of buying it but I didn't have the time to check it out or the money to spare on a winter car. I was thinking of getting my yonger brother to buy it.

I see that there are 2 GT-S models on Auto trader as well but they look like they need a good amount of body work. one guy was originally asking for almost $3,000 but he has droped it to $1,500.

As for the suspension on a SR5 I belive that the rear is leaf spring. I'm not sure about what the front is.

I'm assuming when you ask about the suspension you want to change it. What are you thinking of doing? Do you want owering spring, moer performance based suspension or coilovers?

you can try this link and see what is avalable fro the companies listed.

Side note: There was no 1982 Corolla GT-S. The GT-S model did not exist until 1985.

Leaf springs? Holy crap. Leaf springs dissapeared from Toyota cars in the late 70's didn't they?

As for being able to change the suspension...you can do absolutely anything you could ever imagine.

uhhhhhhhhhh i'm pretty sure that it's not leaf spring mango

it's the same as ur gts has!

and the front is mac strut. why would it be any diff than the ae86? that would just cost more for manufacturing. i'm pretty sure that the only diff b/w the gts and sr5 in suspension is the swaybars. possibly the struts are different(the gts having stiffer ones) but anything other than that, i doubt it

Ya the crappy version of the AE86 is a AE85 in Japan. I've been told that they had to use the AE86 frame for the SR5 over here due to our safty standars.

Ok, correction, car is a 82 sr5. Would this make a good reliable beater for a while? I dont think i would be into a swap for a while, but out of curiosity, what motors would drop in w.o much modifications? Where can i find suspension for one, does someone have a link?
