We like to turbo-charge our intakes to force air down into the cylinders to up the combustion pressure to make more power..
It's a crucial part of the exhaust system to have the gases moving through the exhaust system fast and hot.. With little resistance and turbulance.
The faster the exhaust gases move out of the system the faster air can be drawn into the intake.. Which let's the engine move faster with less resistance of pushing exhaust gas and pulling intake air..
My idea was to use a small motor, like from a hobby airplane.. gas powered.. install it somewhere at the end of the exhaust pipe past all of the turns in the exhaust system.. Using this little gas engine which operates at very high RPM's, to suck the exhaust gases out.. creating a vacuum behind it basically.
The little engine will have to breathe so a small hole can be made in the exhaust pipe right at the little engines air intake..
You will need to be able to start the motor so it will need a power source to spark the gas just as if you were starting it on the plane..
So, the reason I am thinking about this is because I have a small hobby plane gas powered engine.. Just sits around.. and it is very power for its size.. It used to be on a big glider and when you started the motor the plane PULLED hard..
I am just thinking of a way to use this motor again..
Just an idea.. Use it for the intake maybe... but I thought this exhaust gas idea was original and cool in theory that it might actually work well...?

You can buy exhausts like that, but wether or not they actually do anything I don't know. I don't know who sells them but I see them on ebay from time to time. I think they say it gives like 5hp... I think... or was it 5% more hp... Can't remember. I just passed it off as a scame and never paid attention to it again.
even if it worked i dont think the electric motor would last long being so close to the exhaust heat

I called the hobby place up selling those motors and the guy said that the thrust, he believes, is measured in Oz/per square inch
or in other words 2.2PSI
It would be good for people that want to force some air down the intake but don't want to build their engines up to take what a real turbocharger would put out... Interesting.. huh?
ok here is the deal engines like ours like alittle bit of back pressure if you take all of the pressure out they will actually run worse. This is why TRD or nobody else is making a dual exhaust or a single 3 inch, beacuse they actually make less power. The exhaust needs to be tuned to the needs of the motor to get the most power, so the fan, if it does actually help pull air out might actually hurt the power.
Well, your exhaust gases are actually slowed down by your catalytic converter and muffler. The idea of sucking the exhaust gases out more quickly wouldn't, in my opinion, be effective on a stock exhaust system. This is why people change to free flow converters, less restrictive mufflers, or straight pipes.
it depends, freeflowing exhaust are amazing on race cars. but on street cars people forget they need to idle and run slow sometimes. Then they build thie crazy engine they can't drive comfortably
it's funny because chris, the guy I got my gts seats off of said that he put headers on first and it felt more powerful but when he put the 2 or 2.5" exhaust it felt like he lost power :p
Not such a wierd idea.
Remote-mounted turbos are a reality in the new muscle car/truck world these days.
3 yr old post - but someone has used that time and actually made something... http://www.ststurbo.com/gto_6_0l_install_pics
