The master cylinder on my AE86 is leaking. Is it hard to replace this? Where would be the best place to get one and how much?

Thanks,
Norm :???:

Clutch. Fluid's leaking inside the car where the pedals are. I hoping it's just the rubber seal.

It's a very slow leak. I topped it up yesterday and it's still full this afternoon.

i drove my car for about a year like that, maybe even 2 yrs..

it finally gave up with letting air into the hydralic system, this can seriously suck cuz your clutch pedal gets no feeling and you are basically stranded.

so change it soon sometime, cuz if you like to be on time, being stranded sucks.

My slave cylinder went on me a couple of months ago, luckly I made it to my driveway...

I'm not sure if it's safe to drive it long distance. I want to go to the meet on Friday.....

well drive it and see. i think it should hold up for a few months,

maybe the only reason my leaked bad, or lasted 2 yrs was cuz i put that stop leak additive for oil into the master cylinder, i figure it would swell the gaskets and seals and stop the leak..
boy was i wrong. hahaha

the new master for my ccar was only 55$ from crappy tire..

either way, it is pretty fundamental how to do it, just got to get off the butt.. that was the hardest part for me.

replacing a master cylinder shouldn't be hard at all....basic mechanics. just be sure to bleed it properly or else you would have defeated your purpose

keep a jug of fluid handy, all my corollas have had a leaky master at one time or another and I've never seen it suddenly blow out.

You can usually drive them for a long time even years with a slow leak.

I wouldn't worry about it, just keep some fluid close by....

Better take care of that hydraulic fluid leaking inside your car asap, brake fluid is an excellent paint stripper and is also corrosive. The floorpan rusted out quicktime on my 87 MR2 with that exact same leak.

The master cylinder from Toyota is around 120 including taxes. If I remember correctly. I would replace it right away. I wouldn't want any brake fluid under my carpet. Everyone who has an ae86 should replace it, if they haven't yet. I've had two ae86 and replaced both of them. Plus if you upgrade your clutch, it will need all the power it can get.
