CD changer...how did this happen? please help

OK...so i have a 1998 corolla LE. The factory tape deck has buttons for a CD changer (disk change, FF, etc.). So i bought a no-name 6-disk changer, direct link, took out my deck, and plugged it straight in to the back of the deck, and put the changer in my glove box. It worked fine for about 3 or 4 months, but now something is wrong with it. My battery died and i had it replaced, and i think this is where it started. Toyota decks reset themselves when the battery is taken out, so whenever i take out the battery, I have to unplug and replug the changer again. But now that doesn't work. When the changer is not plugged in, the radio and tape work fine. When the CD changer is plugged into the deck, the radio and tape work(i can change from AM to FM, etc.) but no sound comes out of the speakers. When plugged in, the changer does get power, as i can take out the cartridge, but I just cannot get the changer to work. So basically, the CD changer just does not play, cause when it's plugged in, it doesn't register on the deck(doesn't say disk 1, track 1), rather it just stays on the radio. And when the changer IS plugged in, i cannot get any sound. I've tried resetting the radio by unplugging the radio, but that didn't help. Any help would be much appreciated, or any ideas at all on how to fix this annoying problem. My car is a mess, the whole console is ripped out, so please help soon. Thanks all for your time reading this and to those who help.

bad fuse maybe? Could the changer itself be defective?
