Smile Hello everyone!

Hello! I just bought an '89 SR5, and after a bit of searching found this forum! Its seems most other forums ignore its existance (Its not a preformance model! we dont care about it!)

So you guys seem like a nice bunch

But anyway, I just thought I'd say hello to everyone, and where in the world do you guys buy your parts? The dealers around here are murder, so I'm wondering if you guys have any favorite online stores for parts?

Welcome!

Some parts I get new. I try and get aftermarket if at all possible. But when I can I get parts from what I kept off my first Corolla or check out the local scrap yards. A parts car would be key if you have the storage space or if you only have a little space to work with you can always just strip a parts car down and keep just the parts that you think would be usefull to you.

First of all I'd like to welcome you to ToyotaNationTofuBall..

We have a few SR5 owners but many AE92 owners (If you're not familiar with the term AE92 it is the body code for you car (88 - 91 Coupe Corolla) I'm feeling that you're familiar with Initial D So I would guess that you know a thing or two about these cars.

I myself have a 1990 Corolla SR5, here's a link to my website if you'd like to check it out.

Regarding your question, like voodoo suggested, it's always cheaper to go to your local junkyard looking for parts that you can salvage off wrecked cars, I don't usually buy brand new parts from the dealership because as you would know they cost an arm and a leg. So I either try to go to a shop that would find me aftermarket parts or I would order parts from Toyota through my mechanic and use his shop discount.

If you have any questions regarding AE92 SR5's I'm more than happy to help you, I have seen a few problems in this car and fixed them myself. So if you have a problem there's a huge chance that one of us has gone through it already.

Welcome...

I also own an '89 sr5 coupe... So if you have any problems or questions let me know.. I've done quite a lot in the performance area to mine and I know a bit about the engine and how to tune this car.

I usually get parts from Toyota.. I like genuine Toyota parts.. although they can be pricey.. if it's a major part and it isn't out of this world I'll buy Toyota.. otherwise I'll either junk yard it.. if it isn't something super serious or aftermarket it.. Remember what you get from a junk yard is already going to be 14-15 years old.. so if it's an item that over time degrades.. no point in going to a junk yard for it.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone

Voodoo: I actually bought this car with absalutely nothing wrong with it. So I'm hoping that I wont need a parts car :p I was just asking about parts because I cant seem to find much online about or selling parts for this car, and it kinda worried me should I need parts.

The previous owner took fantastic care of it. It's still got the OEM clutch (Though its got like 121K on it)! Its actually starting to slip a little, so I just bought the shop manual to see what I'm in for replacing this. Also the previous owner noted it was around the time for the timing chain, sooo, while I've got it apart . . . (this could take a while)

I've never done this kind of work on a FWD car, most the cars I've gone that deep into have been RWD.

Xenon: Nah, never seen Initial D. Nice clean setup you've got, I cant belive that with your paint in that great condition you let people sit on your car :p

Punisher: I'm not looking so much to do preformance to this car (thats what my other cars are for) this one is more for being a nice reliable car with mega gas milage.

But I'm still interested in what you did preformance wise, and if you swapped out the carb, what carb did you use and how did it affect the low-end and gas economy?

Anyway, thanks for the info! I'll let you guys know if I have any problems
