new toyota corolla

Hi All,

I am considering buying a new corolla or Honda Accord. I had almost decided on corolla when I read in this forum that even new corolla's burn engine oil, 1 qt every 1000 miles or so. I have heard of this happening with old cars but not with new. I have serious concerns about this as this would damage the catalytic converter causing to fail in the vehicle emissions test.
What would you experienced guys recommend?

Thanks.

Suresh

I have never heard that they burn oil. My 2001 Corolla has the same engine and it has never burned oil for 50,000 miles.

its true.....mostly on Manual 1ZZ-FE.

we're doing roughly 4 rebuilts at our dealers right now....2 Corolla and 2 Celicas....but the 2 Corolla they are doin doen'st have VVT-i.....but the celica's do.....

indeed, one of toyotas saddest engine production....But so far it has only happened on 98~99 Corolla and 00 Celica.....i think Toyota made redesigned it for 01 and up
