Its not the rings, I know I have a burnt valve because all the signs point to that... I was just checking the compression on it... sucks. Time for new valves... titanium anyone?

^you want to test the air pressure inside your engine, but DO NOT want actual combustion to take place. So you eliminate fuel and spark
for your corolla you can just pull out the EFI fuse, as for spark there're many ways of doing it, i prefer just taking out the wire between dizzy and ignition coil
remove spark plugs as thats where the valve of your gauge will plug into......before cranking the engine make sure your battery is capable of bearing the load....if you have a battery charger connect that to your battery while you do the test
then crank away! When you hear 4 cranks (you can see the needle on the gauge move up and up and up) stop, and if you wish spray a bit of engine oil inside the cylinder, crank a bit to mix it up, then do the test again and see if the oil affected the compression reading significantly
do the same for rest of the cylinders, compare results...
