what is the best tire size and PSI for 99 corolla

My recently purchased corrolla came with a set of 195/60/14" tires from different brands on the stock steel wheels. I want to replace them with something a bit wider, I was thinking on something like 205/60/14" (on the same black stock wheels).

Will this tire fit fine on the corolla? I actually want to raise my Corolla a little just to give it a little bit more of ground clearance. Although we have very good paved roads here in Honduras there are still times when I rub the bottom of my car against bumps.

I want a set of tires that are quiet and provide a soft ride, what would you recomend.

Also, what is the ideal PSI? I found 40 psi gives me a very agile and effortless steering but the ride gets hard.30 psi seems to give me a better ride but steering gets harder- 35 seems to gives me the best of both but i have read that you get better gas mileage when the tires are pumped to 40psi... is this true?

let me understand what your asking. you want to install a 205/60/14 on your stock 14x5.5 wheels. ok, stock corolla size for that year shold be 175/65/14. if you want to go that wide i would recomend you find wider wheels to fit 205's on ! 195/60/14 would be the over size on that car.

as for air pressure , i recomend stock pressure. i beleve its 32/34 setup. if your running 40psi on a oversized tire that does not fit your OEM wheels properly, there will be problems.

run 195/60/14's and if you want a responsive feel run at 36psi. cause at load, depending on your tires, there is a max pressure. usually on 14" that max PSI is 38@load.

double chk your OEM tire size, and its max pressure@load. you might be comprimising your sidewall integrity

Well I did not know how thin the stock wheels were on this car. 195/60/14 is what is currently on the car. I just wanted to know if it was possible to fit a wider tire in there. I guess this is the widdest I can squeeze in there.

anyways, any recommendation on what brand of tires to get?

do some research on what tires will suit your needs and demands. if your looking for all seasons or if you want a dedicated summer/winter combo is up to you !

do some readin on the net. a good site is the tirerack.com site.they give pretty good reviews. once youfigured out what you need, then go price hunting !

goodluc,k !

you can put wider, but if your concerned about gas milage, then i recomend stayin with a skinner tire. less surface area on the road equals less friction hence better milage. but since less rubbers on the road means no traction on turns. so you can decide !

stock size was 175/65?
that's odd, my 93 came with 185/65 stock
but ya man, if u gonna go 205, i would recommend atleast a 6" wide wheel
more psi = more gas mileage, but im jus cheap so take it for what that's worth

for 205 at least go 6.5. even than that's pushin it. 7 is optimal 205 is much wider than 6 inches

booya BORO, now you can work at wheels direct. ! hahahhaa

nx2k: more psi = more stress on side walls. stress at 140km/h = boom. cheap got nothing to do with it !

i never drive at 140, if i did, it would offset putting 40psi in tires, cuz im sure going 140 would waste even more gas
i drive slow to save gas, i never go over 115
