Question 86' Corolla lighting problem

I have a problem with a 86 Corolla my wife purchased recently, right now the running lights and dash lights will not work! I have checked all the fuses and bulbs I can find (tail lights etc) and have changed several that were burnt. However this still hasn't fixed my problem. Do the lighting circuits fail if one bulb is gone? Does the dash bulb have some easy way of accessing it? HELP

I used to have an 86 nova (Chevy on the outside but all toyota parts) with the same problem. If I tried to adjust the brightness of the dash lights, a fuse would blow in the drivers side kick panel and the rear running lights would stop working. When I replaced the fuse the rear lights worked but not the dash lights. I actually never got the dash lights working again (although I didn't try too hard).

Not sure if this is any help but check out to see if the dimmer switch is working corectly

you've had a beatiful plethora of cars, I envy you...

I recently was having the same problem, and thats cos i installed a radio, the groud wire i used, when the lights were off it was a groud, however when the dash and rear runners came on it became 12V.

anyways, im just saying this cos it could be your radio, sounds wrong but try disconnecting your radio from your car, it might be whats causing the short because that wire runs thru it. It's real weird but worth giving a shot if your stuck for ideas.
