It's always spring. you car has a strut. In order to change the strut on the car you need to remove the spring on it and mount it on the strut you are installing, for that operation you need a spring compressor and that would be the only way to do it. It is dangerous because in case you don't tighten up right or forget to do something there's a chance that the spring may pop out of the compressor and that is a lethal thing.

I would recommend you take it to a mechanic unless you have the proper tools and someone to help you as well as guide you through the process.

Thumbs up strutor spring sounds broke

Thanks for the info. Guess I will have to save backyard mechanisc stuff for something a little easier. Can you rent a spring compressor or is it an expensive item?

Not neccesarily the strut or the spring that is broken.. it could also be the strut mount that its worn out, that's the problem I have right now, as my springs-struts are only 14months old.
