I tried this on Club 4AG but every body would spit out a price tag but still dodge around the initial question.
How much would it cost me to replace my frame and skins and get repainted?
How much would it cost me to do an SR5 conversion seeing how I have all the parts needed for this?
Or should I just look for another AE86 and keep my broken one for parts?

just fix what you got and work with that... drive it, learn in it, go drifting even...and when you come across another good car..buy that one, and save it for a rainy day. You'll have two cars...and you'll be happy. if it means that you have to fix the car for a few thousand..it may be worth it..it all depends on you. I would work with this car, than have no car at all and live a pipe-dream of trying to find a granny AE86.

I went to a car show today...saw some really nice muscle cars...and if you think about it...they had to deal with what you're dealing with right now...probabably even worse cases of it (rust), but they never dispaired and now they got some show-stopping cars. I would ask them about where to fix a car if I were you.. =) Generally, the further you are from the city, the cheaper the body work will be.

find yourself a gts
it aint worth the cost to restore, and convert to a gts.
imo
conversion alone is a hellish price
let alone repairing your frame

i think you'll get a more solid answer if you took some pics of the damaged area and posted it..

obviously, no know can even begin to guess how much it would cost to fix if they don't know what's broken or whatever..

use the fact that you live in a rural area to your advantage. Usually body/chassis shops charge less out in the rural areas, compared to the GTA. I think ANYTHING is repairable...think about it...cars get into major accidents and they get fixed. Sure the body has been comprimised, but it can only be so bad for your case no?

I have been told that I can get my frame fixed but it will never get saftied. I will post some pics when I get the car back. Yes I still haven't got it back but I do get it towed for free for waiting. I should get it back some time this week.

just get it fixed and spray the whole underside with some undercoating .. no one will know..

well i mean, that's what you *could* do.. *theoritically*..

in a *hypothetical* situation

Tell me more about this undercoating.
lol
I just think the guy at Midas is just an ***hole. I don't trust them any way. These are the same idiots who ordered special parts for my cousins AMC Javlin from the U.S.A. and his E-brake still didn't work.
And the fact that my fram went from unrepaiable to reparable but will not get saftied leaves me very unconvinced that they have a clue what they are doing. If I don't get my car back tomorrow I think I'll go get it and drive it home without the plates. It is 2 minuets away from where I live so I'll just take the side streets.

definitly, i wouldn't trust midas or whatever for this kinda work.. find yourself a body shop that isn't afraid to break out the welder..

when I had the hole in my floor pan repaird, they cut out teh bad metal and welded in new metal.. they even shaped the metal so that it had all the ridges and sh** that the original floor pan had.. they also had to fabricate part of one of the inside cross members..

now when you look at it, the only thing that gives it away is they sprayed it with black paint instead of the factory blue (since all that sh** is under the carpet)

you jsut need to find someone who can do some metal work and some welding.. but this kind of work won't be cheap..

after theyr'e done, just spray it (or have them spray it) with some undercoating.. which is just supposed to prevent chipping of the paint and rust.. that coating will cover everythign up and no one will be able to tell what's under there unless they're looking really hard..
