possible 85 sr5 corolla

ok.....theres this hatchback corolla....(im guessing its sr5.....dont know for sure) thats been parked at the end of our road in a guys yard for like 3 years...would it be smart to attempt to buy it?
its currently covered in black berry bushes and i dont think its been ran in a few years....if i do ask him about it..what should i look for on the car....that might be problematic?

See what the price is then decide if you want it. I picked up an '85 SR5 for $900 and am rather disappointed, i only purchased it because i had to drive 400 miles to get it. It runs like a little champ, but is the slowest car i've ever driven (i've driven base model Hyundai Accents and a 135hp 5,000lb Cadillac). I've tried drifting it and it just doesn't have the power, it'll barely do it in dirt.

There's really nothing wrong with SR5's. Yes, they are weaker compared to GTS', but the 4ac engine is good enough for a daily driver.

What you should look for is the VIN number. If it has AE86 it's an SR5, AE88 is a GTS.

Problematic things would be rust and holes caused by rust. It is after all almost a 20 yr old car.

What is it that you plan to do with the car anyway? Auto-x, track, drift?

most likely just a daily driver
i currently own a 86 corolla fwd sedan...4ac motor and such nothing special...but i like it....its fun to drive and gets pretty good gas mileage.

i want the sr5 purely for the fact that its rwd if the gts would be better....then so be it

This too is the 70hp 4a-c motor, it does make a nice daily driver however and handles decent.

so the only difference in the sr5 and the gts is the engine?

SR5 has an open differential and less sporty suspension. GT-S also came with a spoiler if i'm not mistaking and different wheels.

The two cars are very different, suspension, motor, interior, exterior, very different cars.
