Question Switching instrument panels

Hi

I have a 99 corolla CE with the base instrument panel. (no tach and no outside temp display). I have been wanting to change it and today I found a 2000 instrument panel at a yunk yard with a tach and an outside temp display and it even had the dials reversed ! (dark numbers on white backgrounds)

Will this instrument panel work on my car? Will the tach and temperature sensor work and will it display the right amount of miles that my car already has?

Also, if it would work fine, how hard is it to remove the actualone? What would I need to remove?

thanks guys,

the temp sensor wouldnt read anything unless you pulled the sensor too. i dont think the base models came with the sensor. as far as everything else, the tach wire should be there i could imagine.

anyone else have actual experience with this one?

Where would the Temp sensor be? Also since the odometer on both instrument cluster are degital, would the new one dysplay the miles from the "old" car or mine?

it would display the old cars i think. the temp sensor is in front of the radiator, on the radiator core support. cant miss it, right under the hood latch.

About the temp sensor, this particular cluster, has a little LCD display that gives you the outside temp. I dont think that this sensor is mounted inside the cluster, does anyone know where is
it located?

About the odometer, a friend of mine told me that since it was also digital y would read the mileage info from the onboard computer. (although he was not sure) So even if I replaced the instrument panel I will keep my original miles.

He's talking about outside ambient air temp, not engine temp...

Your right, he is talking about the outside temp. But silverstreak is also right. The sensor is at the front of the rad at the bottom. It's attached to a black wire that runs down the rad.

You only need a screw driver to take the cluster out. Philips head.

To get the right milage your gonna have to unscrew the whole speedometer from the back 5 or 6 screws I beleive. You gotta replace it with your original.

If it has a white face then its more then likely indeglow gauges. make sure to get the power supply with it.

Good luck
