Looking to buy 2003 Corolla - advice?

Hey everyone!

Hope you don't mind me being the classic newbie & posting a question that's been asked 1,000,000 times before (I did try the search but I couldn't get good usable results).

It's time for a new car I've pretty much decided on a 2003 Corolla (either left-over inventory or certified used) and just want to get your feedback on any common problems I should look out for. Anything I should look extra closely at while I'm looking for a car? Anything I should watch out for once I've bought one? Thanks everyone!

The '03-'04 corollas run great, in my opinion, and if you're looking to save some gas and basicly a city car, then you've found the right one. With my car, the only problem was the cd player, it has trouble playing burned cd's.
That's all.

Anyone else have anything to add? I heard about a rear axle recall on some 2003 Corollas, is that anything I should worry about?

Thanks to every one of you for your replies, you were very helpful--though perhaps not in the way you thought you were!

I started this thread as part of a study looking at the perceived and actual quality of Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas, and Volkswagen Jettas. You can view my results here.

Again, thank you for your help, and I apologize if any of you feel misled or used by this--it was not my intent, to be sure.
