hey.. umm guys.. got some questions.. i just got a race series magnaflow muffler.. it's 6" long w/ 2.25" inside..
oh yeah.. this is on an ae86
dunno y but i dun feel gains at all!! i pick up alot slower and i set off alarms everywhere!! but.. however it feels more free flowing at higher speeds..
i knew i'd lose some low-end power but didn't know i'd lose soo much..
what can i do to improve my pick up anyone?
would a silencer work?
Well mesure it and get a silencer it will help for city driving and when your on the highway take it out and save gas.Im not sure if Apexi makes one that size but i got one on my 115mm tip.

The silencer if it fits will help for sure when doing city driving but for fuel savings a claer tip is better.But remeber you got a small engine so it will not even show up that much on your gas bill.
Ken, also did you ask Xee about the driver side door that he has for sale? He says its mint. Oh well, I think it has rust on it... from the blue one. :roll:
ken, get a resonator put on before the pipe goes over the axel. a muffler will not give you substantial power gains, if any at all. Toy'd have to do the whole exhaust...cat back 2.25. you are using stock piping?
a gze is not stupendously hard to put in, provided you have access to a hoist and the proper tools. the wiring might be a little tricky and the vacuum lines could be confusing at first. and the piping might be an obstacle. other than that, just use the flywheel from your original 4age, you could use the clutch too, but i would be inclined to buy an after market one seeing that you don't want to go back in there....especially when you find the stock one starts slipping on-boost.
Welcome to the board Ken! Hope to see you around some time! :smile:
Almost any mod you put on the car will be a trade off. You can't have your cake and eat it too. In this case, you will lose some low end. But the gains at the top end is worth it. You will feel the low end loss more if you have a full mandrel bend exhaust as well. The losing of some backpressure is caused by the larger diameter pipe and/or mandrel bends, coupled with no resonator or high flow resonator and a high low muffler. But the top end gains are worth it IMHO. A properly tuned exhaust system should give you 5-8 HPs.
Hope that helps.

I'm SUPER, thanks for asking;
All things considered I couldn't be better I must say.
I'm feeling SUPER, no, nothing bugs me;
Everything is SUPER when you're...
my 4agze swap should be next summer.. if nothing else breaks down.. and nick that's a good point there.. i'll definately look for a clutch n save some labour..
yea.. I got a new oem exhaust.. dun even know y the guys got me it tho..
so a resonator will surely give me more power?? there's a resonator that was on the 3000GT and if i put that on... would i be feeling better gains?
about the silencer.. i'm just going to use it on the streets but on the track i'll take it off since i'll be on my high end most the time..
varietta! i'll try to get ur initial d to u sat.. or if not monday or tuesday? that cool? hehe my whole car's all patched up now! no more rust.. well at least for now..
bo resonator will bot gice you any power..if anything, you might lose some although i highly doubt it. However, it will cut down on the loudness depending on how large the resonator is.
i got the regular stainless steel muffler. at first it was quite and i felt torqe loss. Then i took out the air silencer and ran hose to turnsignal for cold ram air and added magnecor wire, it was then that I felt the torque gained some.
Try to increase the air flow, that seemed to help me. I also replaced the cat with Carsound hi-flow cat and torque is way better now and it now sets off alarms too. It made my engine run cooler also.
I love the magnaflow, the sound, quality, and cheaper than most too. Don't worry, it does add horsepower, which you should notice at high speed. You can regain torque with other mods.
