TRD muffler tip (effects??)

i have an 01 corolla and am thinking about putting a TRD exahust tip on it

http://www.vpower.net/catalog/produc...products_id=98

my questions are

what will happen to my fuel economy

if n e one has heard it on a corolla how does it sound (obviously not looking for the old tin/coffee can)

and with an ELP cold air intake what can i expect in horse power and other thing

can n e one advise a better muffler that would be a bolt on. im to lazy to re pipe and weld (even tho i have a welder) plus i need to able to replace it with stock muffler for smog and warranty

the TRD one is the best bolt-on u can find out there for the 98-02 rollas.. with your cold air intake u're gonna get some pretty good power from 3500rpm all the way to 6000
however u'll loss some of the low-end power below 3000..

for fule economy.. it doesn't affect much.. and it got a pretty good deep tone.. and pretty silent i'd say.. not like other cheaper brand muffler..

They sound good but are overpriced IMO.

replacing only muffler=virtually no power gain. If you're talking about a catback thats different. That would give you some gains, but its it just a muffler buy the cheapest glasspack you can find. It doesn't really matter that much.

"replacing only muffler=virtually no power gain"

This is true...

"but its it just a muffler buy the cheapest glasspack you can find"

Not if he says:"im more worried about sound as i dont want a tin can sounding car "

A cheap-ass glass pack will sound like that. That TRD muffler is at least going to bolt up perfectly and give a nice mellow tone.
There could be other mufflers around that are cheaper and equally pleasing, you'll have to ask around.... I got my stock muffler...

Anyone that thinks a muffler makes a difference in performance.. raise your hand so you can be laughed at.

Only thing a muffler effects is the sound of your exhaust, fuck the whole exhaust system has an effect on the sound of your exhaust.

Any muffler advertised as "universal" can be installed on any car by a muffler shop... just do a damm web search for "universal muffler"

As far as I know the only cat-back available for a 2001 Corolla is the Thermal Research and Development one.

Basically anything you do to your intake/exaust to improve flow is going to make it sound louder (some would say worse).

Check out vpower.net for bolt on goodies for your car...

They could weld it on.. clamp it on.. or weld flanges so you could "bolt it on".

IF you go larger in exhaust you are going to get a more echo'ing tone.. Unless your engine is truly downing that much air to be filling the exhaust pipe, in your case.. that won't be the uh.. case. Unless you go forced induction.
A larger exhaust is just going to basically give you a slightly higher top speed.. nothing better.. maybe 1hp more.. In cars, it isn't 1 mod that makes the ride.. it's several smaller mods that make a big difference. I get a feeling you are mislead in thinking that putting a bigger muffler or bigger exhaust system on your engine is going to make big power differences. Don't bet on it, unless the stock setup is already under-sized.. which I doubt it is. Everything on the engine is tuned to be at optimal size and proportion, so if you want more power you can't just change one thing and expect a 20-30% HP gain or some shit that a company will feed you. I probably spent 2G to get 15HP more out of my 4AF.. that's just the way it goes. Over time though, one learns what mods are smarter for the money spent.

hummm i c said the blind man

lol

being a poor college student with a part time job i think ill just stick with the ELP cold air intake and leave my exhaust system alone

after all i only wanted the trd muffler for the sound and for 300 bucks i think i can pass it up

thanks for all of the help and advice and time
