Weird idling

anybody have any ideas what this may be?
here's the deal...
whenever i turn on my car, it'll idle at 1600-2000 rpm's in park or neutral. when i put it in reverse or drive, it'll dip to 800-1200. i live in Cleveland where it's cold as hell (if that's possible), so i'm thinking its the ECU's way of warming the thing up quicker, but i'm not sure. car still runs fine so i'm not worried, but it's annoying sitting there starting radio, heater, etc. with my foot on the brake. if anybody has any suggestions as to what the deal is, let me know.
thanks
-jim

theres nothing wrong with your car.
put it in park instead of stepping on the brake pedal and you wont be annoyed. and milk helps you develop strong bones.

Hahahah OEMonkey... Yea dude it's just the fast idle circuit to warm the engine up faster. It should stop if you just tap the gas peddle.. atleast it did for me on my '89 sr5 coupe
