I just set this little jobbie up tonite.. reason for it? I figure it can't hurt to have a little tranny cooling going on.. I need to get a new cooler tho.. this ones a bit beat up.. but anyway it serves the purpose. I was previously using it and it was hanging like right infront of the tranny so it took all of the shit from the road.. salt.. snow.. etc.
I put the pressure gauge on there.. an extra one I had laying around from doing refrigeration work, kind of a neat touch and some good information. In the middle you see a bluish round thing.. that is an oil pressure switch.. that switch is setup on a relay which has power from the ignition switch ON position.. when the key is at ON.. nothing happens.. BUT.. when there is pressure on the switch.. it opens the relay which turns my fuel pump on

.. I converted from the manual pump on my 4AF to a 4-7psi electric pump for my keihin carbs. I had to get rid of the mechanical pump because it was in the way of my linkage setup.
So when the car starts the tranny fluid pump starts.. the fluid pressure rises the switch gets triggered at 5PSI.. the fuel pump comes on.. all is good. And no carbs do NOT need pressure to start.. there is always fuel in the float bowls.. it's vacuum from the engine that pulls the fuel in, not pressure that pushes.
If you look to the right of the switch you see something else.. this in refrigeration business is called a Site Glass.. used to see the flow of liquid refrigerant, mainly used after the condenser to check the efficiency of the condenser, make sure that it is cooling the refrigerant enough so it changes from a gas state to a liquid state..
I used it because it would let me see the flow of the tranny fluid.. see if it looks low.. and to see the color of the fluid as well.
