I want to install the bigger plug wires on my hi-comp 4ag. Which set should I use (bigger 4ag low-comp wires, 3s-gte wires)? What cap should I also use (some said MR2 supercharged). I already have the AE86 coil on it which requires the bigger outlet.

I saw that some of you did this mod already. Wanted to know what parts you used and recommend.

Thanks

Hey Pat,
If Magnecor makes a set for the high comp 4AG, I highly recommend you getting a set of their KV-85 8.5mm wires. This is what I am running on my MR2 SC, they don't 'make' hp but will definately help regain lost hp from a deteriorated set of old wires. One thing you will have to watch out for using any low comp 4AG or 3SG wire sets is that they seal properly against the centre plug cover piece, ie: MR2 4AG wires won't fit onto GTS 4AG so be careful trying to fit GTS 4AG wires onto a hi-comp 4AG. Try contacting Magnecor directly even if they don't specifically list application for the 10.5:1 JDM 4AG, I'm sure they've been asked to custom supply this wire setup before so they will have the proper measurements on file. Coil-wise, I'm running the MSD Blaster 2 on my MR2 SC and will be installing one on my GTS soon. Don't bother spending money on the stock coil if you will be upgrading your other ignition components. Everything you want should cost under 150$ CDN.

Hey Derek! How are ya man? Not bad myself. Our 7age AWD Rolla has been tried and tested! Two first stages went great then on the third stage, we took a curve a bit too wide and ended up in the ditch upside down! he he he.. No major damage. Hood, windshield, fenders. The engine is a beast and pulls superbly.

My hi-comp AE92 used to be equipped with MSD 6a ignition and MSD Blaster 2 coil. Paid 400$ for everyhting. Didn't see a damn difference. Plus, came to start my car one morning and the car would turn but didn't start. MSD Coil was cracked from top to bottom and the current was grounding itself on the frame of the car. In one wisk I threw the crappy american made in mexico piece of junk and threw it as far as I could. My friend Pascal had a coil from his old beat up AE86 that was lying in the back of the garage. 17 years old. Toyota made. Fired up in one turn.

I sold the 6a to some guy in Boston. Car pulls as strong to redline as it did with 6a. From my experience and from others, don't waste your money. Stock Toyota ignition is good enough for huge HP numbers and high RPM delivery. A lot of US and Japan based Supras putting out 500-600 wheel hp are still using stock Toyota ignitions.
