Side skirt prep ?

What do I do(use) to strip down my sideskirts. Should I keep them as 2 pieces or join them together. Thanks for the help... Josh

Your question is unclear, what do you mean by "strip down" your sideskirts? Do you mean remove them from the car, strip the paint, or something else? Or are you talking about stripping the mouldings off the car?? Because I thought SR5s had no skirts...

No. I just recieved (actually yesterday) some side skirts from a friend in Japan. There color is white. I would like to remove the paint in order to re-paint them. What kind of process should I use? By the way..I have some 400 grit sandpaper. Is that too rough to use for this project? What about little knics and scratches? Thanks all. Sorry for being unclear... -Josh

dont strip the paint down
just sand the whole thing properly with 400grit sand paper and your ready to paint any colour you like

for the knics and scratches fill them with spot putty and sand smooth, primer, sand, prime, sand and paint

Now the question is should I have it taken to a body or should I try to use my neighbors gun to paint it? Also there is a slight crack in the sideskirt. What should I use to hold it from further breakage? Fiberglass? Superglue? Thanks for the help. -Josh

Try it yourself if you can get the right paint

Fiberglass will work, you can buy a repair kit.

i actually have to fix a crack in some mr2 sideskirts (aw11) for a guy..... i'm gonna just be using fiberglass on the backside and then use some bondo (possibly a bit of resin) on the outside....

Yep....It worked. I bought a fiberglass repair kit and put a few layers on the back of the crack. Then I filled the gap with bondo. I filled any other little knics and sanded them pretty good. I have some primer i'm gonna spray on then i'm gonna wet sand the skirts. They're gonna look brand new after being painted. Now the only question is a bomex bumper or a trueno bumper? -Josh

get some automotive primer from a bodyshop or a store that sells only bodyshop/material stuff..... the primer you buy in general stores is way thin.....

It is automotive...It says it can be wetsanded. I figure 3 coats would be good enough. I'll sand it down nice and make it perfect. The paint on my car is fairly new so i'm gonna wait to get the whole joint repainted. Hopefully the skirts dont make the paint on the car look dull...I need to get my girls digi cam so I can put some pics up. -Josh
