AE92 or AE94

Far as I know, most corolla's from 1988 to 1992 are AE92

I have a 1992 corolla 4-door with the AE94 model

My car is a north american - the VIN starts with a 2
if it started with a J then it was built in Japan

I believe the 1992 models built in north america were all AE94 and share a lot of similarities with the AE101

In North America
If your car looks like this:

It's an AE92
If it looks like this:

Then it's an AE102

Some confusion might come in if you are looking at the number on the door becuase that has no direct relation to the chassis except the "A" stands for the "A" series egine and the "E" stands for Corolla.

Another confusing thing is that in North America the 93-97 Corollas came with two engines, the 1.6liter 4a-fe and the 1.8liter 7a-fe. Here in N/A they called the 1.6 the AE101 and the 1.8 the AE102. That is confusing because the AE101 in Japan is a different car with two doors and a 20Valve 4a-ge. Therefore we usually call all North American 7th Gen Corollas AE102s.

As far as I know there is no AE94 at least in North America, someone please school me if I am wrong...

AE95 sedans do exist. There's a guy up here in Ottawa with one. Looks nothing like the AE95 wagon though.

mine is a poor EE90, but till now all parts have matched with a AE92, so i donno, the EE is coz it came with a E- series engine, (2E, but now i put a 4E-FTE), but donno the diff. between my E90 and the E92, except brake, no strut bar, etc, tho slowly i am puttin on all that stuff too.

that's the vin number... not the chassis code... although the AE9 part is chassis the next number has to do with the car's revision or something like that.. Actually, according to my VIN number, my car is an AE98 (not 69 hehe).

Don't look at the VIN. Look at the sticker inside the driver's door jamb...near the latch. Where is says "MODEL" on this sticker, you will see something like "AE92*-******". This is your true model number. I think mine says something like "AE92L-DEMDKA". If you look in the owner's manual, it will tell you how to decode this number. Regards, Aaron
