my front windshield has cracked from a rock chip and it cracked about 6-8" in length. is there a way to fix a crack that long? if so where can i do this in toronto and for how much?

and if i can't has anyone ever removed the front glass before? it can't be hard but i know it will be a pain

any suggestions would help

An auto glass specialist will be able to repair a crack that is no longer than an US dollar bill.. Just guestimating the length.. 5 1/2".. so it is fairly possible that they would be able to repair the crack.. If not.. I know that I had my windshield replaced for 200 bux .. brand new glass.. including the removal of the cracked glass.. all the warranty crap.. etc etc.. and new moldings included.
Most companies will even come to your house or work and do it there.. as long as it isn't raining etc.. or if you have a garage for them to work in.

Make sure you really source your company though.. it's better to pay a few extra dollars to be absolutely sure in the work. And you can haggle with them.. get a bunch of estimates.. call around say, hey this other company quoted me this much... and they will start to price beat eachother lol.

even if you manage to cut the stubborn adhesives/rubber, its real difficult to remove the windshield, well at least for me anyway, i ended up chipping and cracking the glass prying it gently

you need the sucking cup thingy!

no u don't need the sucky cup thingy.. I helped the guy put my new windshield in.. was really fuckin simple.. i did pull the old shield myself though.. with the help of my pops.. we used some metal wire wrapped around 2 cut pieces of wood (large dowling) and it was a job.. but it wasn't that hard.. lol that was when I thought I was going to replace the shield myself.. stupid me

The next day I was like.. bah fuck it.. Having it pro installed was slightly more than doing it myself..

hmm having a hard time visualizing the wood and wire, how did you arrange it, where'd you set it up? etc etc

If its a daily driver i would just bring it to a shop, since like you said the price is only a bit more than buying the thing yourself and installing it, plus reduce the off-road time considering they'll have it done quick

thats killer though 2 bills! FUCK
i'm going to try to go and take it off at the junkers..
if i crack one.. move on to the next until i get it right hahaha

my friend told me to buy the suction cup thingy too LOL
but i don't think its necessary.. just a few guys to help push it out should be okay..

but what i'm wondering.. the top trim on the windshield where the roof is how do i remove that??

i know that the sides there are plastic clips but i don't know about the top?????

you have any knowledge about that punisher??

Top goes too.. Trust me.. it's 2 bills worth the spending.. They'll have the windshield off with out a mess and have the new one on in like 30 minutes and u can go back to driving the car normal in 3 hours and full cure in 24 hours..

If you don't have expirence in doing it yourself I wouldn't recommend it

Btw, u don't need anyone to push it down.. just a guy on each side to move it into position and then set it down.. it's really easy.. that is if you are a pro.. the install guy had a cordless power caulk gun.. etc etc.. Just put your foot in your pocket n get it done right the first time.. u'll probably end up spending more money trying to do it yourself and more time/frustration! Learn from me on that piece of advice.

Yu removal isn't that hard. But it took me the better part of an hour this way. And you will need a second person to help. Just get some heavy duty picture frame wire and wrap each side around a piece of wood or something. You will have to carve out a hole to start with.

Take a piece of wood.. round would be best
Drill a small hole in it.. put some metal wire/cable through it.. thin shit.. Best bet would be to get some windshield up far enough to slip the cable under it.. then put on each end of cable the wood.. and wrap the cable around the wood a few times.. then like a double-man saw.. work back and forth .. get good speed going.. u'll get a ton of heat going on and you just melt right through the sealant.. except for the fact that after that u will need to clean up a shitload of broken glass.. sealant dust.. etc.. SOOO much easier to get it done professionally.. I know autostores sell little kits with the same home-made tool I explained.
