I just got off the phone with Toyota a few hours ago. It turns out that the rumor that Toyota no longer makes the RWD Corolla GT-S repair manuals any more is true. They also no longer make the owners manual.
they oldest Corolla repair manual they habe was a 93.
Where do you think I could find one or something just as good? Becaus Haynes just is not specific enough.

I won't be suprised that they stop printing them, mean hey it's been 16 years already!

You reminded me that one time I was at the Metro Reference Lib, I found this book called "How to tune a Corolla.", I was laughing so hard when I saw the book title. In today's words it would've been "How to rice your civic."

But anyway, I found couple of books on Corolla back from the '70s so you might be able to find some on your AE86.

whether or not the manual is out of print is debatable..

people say that they reprint a few copies when ever they run out.. so its a matter of finding a dealer willing to go through the motions of putting in another order??

I don't know for sure..

but, if your'e having trouble ,the easiest way is to look on ebay..

or email the guys at

http://www.burientoyota.com

last time i put in a request for the manual through these guys (about a month ago) they had at least 1 in stock.. they are supposed to be pretty good at getting stuff..

it has a lot to do with how lazy or resouceful the actual parts guy is that you talk to.

My local guy usually helps me out, and digs high and low. I tried to buy some OEM bushings, he said they were no longer available. Then I speak with a friend of mine out west, a couple weeks later and he just ordered a bunch of OEM bushings for his car, and got them in 48 hours for peanuts.

I'd definitely try another dealer.

When I got my manual they told me it was the last one in print in the country...then a bunch of other guys bought theirs after me so they've got to be out their.

Neil

the manual is somewhere...they stock piled them when the 86 was in production. Once it ended, all there surplus just stays in a warehouse either in Canada, US or Japan.

you'll find it...just keep looking

also, the manual I got (which was only a few months ago) is a reprint, not the originals printed back in '85.. (you can tell by the style of the cover)

so they have been reprinting them..

try burientoyota.. lots of people on club4ag recommend them.. you 'll have to pay shipping from the US, but it might be worth it if you can't find a local dealer willing to help you out...

Actually I was thinking about that today on my way home from Waterloo. Some body should buy them and make copies on CD and sell them. You could make some good money doing that. And if you get busted for copy write infringement then just tell them that the Toyota Dealerships said that they were all discontinued so you thought it would be ok.
