Hi: My son was given a 1991 Corolla with a 5 speed and the 4A-FE engine with 189,000 miles on it. My wifes sister gave it to him as an early Grad. Present. She had all kinds of maintenance do on it before she gave it to him, from new tires to new exhaust system, I mean the works. The car looks like and runs like new. Its a kind of maroon/candy apple red original paint. What information can you give me about this Corolla with all this mileage on it. Thanks, Dan.

looks like in your sig it says you also have a 96 with the 4a-fe..... mileage that high can be good or bad....
the ae92 is notorious for getting cracked exhaust manifolds..... i just swapped motors because i had a bad head gasket and i know someone else with an ae92 sr5 who is having the same problem.....
but if it's kept up well & babied it will go on forever

i blew a headgasket.... and last summer i had a coil go bad as well.... that's what made me swap... BUT:
i put over 4000 miles on the motor with the blown head gasket AND when the head gasket went i needed an oil change (which i didn't do).... so add it up.... 7,000 miles w/o an oil change and 4,000 of which had a blown head gasket and it still drove decently
also, when i broke my 1st and 2nd gear in the tranny, i was still able to drive the car over 100 miles using 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse... you'd think that those broken gears would stop me, but nope!

The whole 4AF is bulletproof.. the tranny.. My friend has a '90 4AFE.. He found out after he bought the car that the previous owner did N drops (automatic tranny) all day... and it didn't die nor did anything go wrong.. and I abuse the hell out of my 4AF with high RPMs.. 7K ain't unusual in 1st through 3rd..

Really? I'm tempted to do it sometimes when backing up but I've always held back. You seriously think it can take it?
Any corolla from 1988 to 1992 are the best corolla Toyota have ever built.
Just last sept?? not too sure when, a lady from Calgary with a 1989 Corolla ran her corolla for 996000Km . Her Tranny blew at 887000km and her radiator was replace at 916000km.
The dealership where she purchased it, bought back off her by giving her a new 2003 Corolla. she couldn't refuse it, so she agreed. the dealership wanted the corolla that ran 1,000,000km
I can't say I'd do an N drop into R.. but an N drop into D would be ok I'd imagine.. um.. I'd slam it from N to 1st.. make sure you do the gear change really fast.. pull 5K in N and then the second you go to shift into gear slam the gas peddle.. BUT if anyone here has a more "safe" way of doing an N drop.. let us know roflmao.. I wouldn't suggest it at all really.

I sort of do that, I reverse and apply enough brake to shift when im at Tim Hortons and as I roll back in no gear I gas it and lay some black strips, mwahahahahhaha.
