Different door handles in 1992?

Three of the four door handles on my 1992 Corrola DX are broken.

This includes the front driver's side (making normal entry a REAL problem!) so I thought it was time to fix it. Went to the "pick-n-pull" and found a car very much like mine (I think it was a 1991). Removed the door handles easily and walked away with four new ones for only $31, not bad.

When I got home and removed the defective front driverside door handle it was different from the one that I got in the junk yard! The key cylinder is on the same side, they are shapped the same, but on the bad of the handle the part which the metal rod connected to the plastic handle is on the opposite side!

My door handles are painted the same color as the car (burgondy), most others I see are just black (the ones I picked up are also black plastic).

Were there different kinds of door handles for the 1992 Corolla? Am I going crazy or just very ignorant? PLEASE HELP ME GET BACK INTO MY CAR, it's embarassing when people in hondas see me!

Thanks for the help and answers in advance!
Megan

probably... 1992 is the weird year..... all ae92's go from 88-91 everywhere in the world except for north america... where for some reason when everyone else turned to a new bodystyle in 1992, we got another ae92... but the 1992's are different, strangely enough......

they are the "odd" year....

I should have know! Thanks for the help, I just couldn't figure this one out on my own. Please let me know if anyone can confirm that the handles on a 1992 corolla dx are different from the 1988-1991 corollas . . . seems like such a stupid change to make, especially since these seem far more prone to failure!

Thanks for any input fellas!

I am parting out a red 92 corolla. E-mail me direct if you still need handles. Inside or outside? ern.sue@verizon.net
