hello, I was wondering if anyone knew any different kind of engine that is commonly swapped into a 85-87 toyota corolla gts.

You could go to club4ag.com and check the tech reference section there. There is a lot of useful information on that site concerning this car.

Just to start you off: 16V and 20V 4age from later corollas, 4agze

um, 4a-ge.... 4a-ge redtop... 4a-ge redtop smallport... 4a-ge 20V silvertop, 4a-ge 20V blacktop, 4a-gze bigport, 4a-gze smallport...

and if you're crazy, an sr20det, 3s-gte... and even one guy did a 2jzgte.... (maybe it was a 7m-gte... i don't remember/care anymore)

Looking at the valve cover colours means absolutely nothing now. Unless you're talking about the 20 valves. People interchage valve covers, so you can't really base your decision on that.

To answer your question GT_GREG, there was a bigport red top and a small port redtop (hi comp motor). toyotaspeed 90 is correct.
