AE86, which motor should I go with to be in the 13s?
As title states. I will be buying an AE86 hatch soon, possibly even a coupe. I'd like to do a swap...and I am looking to build up a low - mid 13 second car. I was debating between a 4-AG GE and a 4AGZE. My question is, should I be better off purchasing a 4AGGE and boosting it with a homemade kit, probably paired up with a t3 turbo...or should i go supercharged with the 4AGZE. I know with the 4AGZE with a Cusco pulley, intake, exhaust, etc...in a stripped Corolla would be quick, but I dont think it would yield 13s. Please excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, I am somewhat new to the AE86 scene, always loved them but I am not researching a bit more, hopefully the knowledgeable people of this forum can help me out a bit and help me make up my mind!

ur a fool to choose the ae86 as a drag platform.
u want 13s? get a turbo II and u can hit the 13s with minimal modifications.

"One challenge for the companies is to persuade youths to buy the right cars for drifting. Front-wheel-drive Hondas, Mazdas, Toyotas and Mitsubishis, which are the popular choice for customizing, don't work for drifting. Rear-wheel-drive Japanese vehicles such as the 1990-1998 Nissan 240SX, pre-1984 Toyota Corollas and the Mazda RX7, which was discontinued in 1996, are most popular for drifting. The cars can be bought for as little as $1,500 and rarely cost more than $6,000."-USA TODAY
Fast and the furious and Initial D don't go together!!!!
wrong wrong car to be thinking of making into a dragster....trust me....i tried.....everything short of carbing the 4AGE and the best i could muster was mid 15s.....even if u could make enough power (ie turbo).....u'll have the drivetrain to worry about....that was the main stumbling block for myself...so i just decided to just buy a faster car.....
Well thanks for the input. I already have a 13 second car...a GSR swapped 94 Civic CX...its pretty quick. I just want an AE86 for the car, I always loved them, and im not buying it because of a cartoon either. I just figured instead of an all out drifter, maybe I could make it run nice numbers at the strip too.

And if you really want a drag 86...try hitting up "drag86" on club4ag. His name is Luis from Paradise Racing. He's got one quick corolla.
the car is underpowered.....weighs in like a pig.....great setup for drag.....
Drag86's car is an amazing drag car, but he is running a turbocharged 3rzfe with tons of mods.
If you are thinking about building a drag car with more of a budget, try 4agze imo - the few cars w/ 4agze I have sat in are insanely fast for the amount of power they are putting out. It would be more fun to build a drift car as they are great setup for that .

so is a civic ..... weighs in close to a corolla (but nothing weight reduction can't fix) ... a civic is ff ... seems that this is great setup for drag also - but a lot of people use a civic for drag. Why? Because they can.
My point is, there are a lot of cars out there with a bad setup for drag racing - stock, but if you have the time and money to spend to modify that car, it can make a decent drag car.
Anyways, he's only aiming for 13's...those numbers are a dime a dozen.
Whatever engine you do get.. make sure you rebuild it thoroughly.. or else you will do a ton of mods and wonder why you aren't getting the power that you should be expecting. You can lose a LOT of power and efficiency if piston rings or valve seals are bad.. or your valves are burnt.. etc.
