Ok.. I need some input on this issue.
It would seem that after a compression test today.. things are fucked up.
I didn't do a wet test on cyl 1 yet.. but what I did read is that in cyl 1 I hit 140psi.. cyl 2 dry was like 140 and then 180 wet.. and cyl three was.. idk.. 135 dry.. i can't remember wet.. cyl 4 which seem to have a bad piston ring or valve seal was 135 and then 145 wet.. these numbers aren't very good are they?
I've come to the conclusion that what I need to do is get a complete rebuild kit.. cost of 250.00USD
(contains complete gasket set, set of pistons and rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, timing belt, balance shaft bearings (if applicable), and a set of expansion plugs (does not contain camshaft, timing kit or oil pump). Pistons & Rings: Std., .020, .040. Bearings: Std., 10, 20, 30.)

Ok, now I could get a complete timing kit which I assume would include valve springs as well, think it would be a good time to put in new valve springs and keepers??
Also it would include a new oil pump.. I'm at a 116K on the odometer right now.. and as you may know I have a lot of mods (cams, carbs, exhaust system) basically the major things to do.
I also would want to do a 7AFE head swap into my 4AF.. has anyone done this? Some advice on it?
I'm basically asking if anyone has expirence in doing this rebuild and what I should expect or look for what type of speciality tools I may need to have on hand etc..
I pulled cyl 4 spark plug n saw oil on the plug.. I also get a puff of smoke when I first start the car and when I gun the throttle.. and it's an off-white burnt smelling smoke.
What I do see is that from a vacuum check on cyl 4's runner (individual runners) I have nearly 20" of vacuum and it's steady reading it directly from the runner.. doesn't bounce or anything.. I lose all vacuum tho the second I touch the throttle.. which doesn't exactly surprise me I guess considering I have very small runners.. only like 4" each.
Um.. I have some tuning hell with the carbs.. and I can't say for my gas mileage just yet.. but I know that from the day I bought the car in it's stock condition I was lucky to see 250mpt.. out of a 4AF ae92 coupe.. TofuBall tells me he gets 400mpt out of his exact same car through a range of different driving conditions..
I was getting HORRIBLE mileage with my weber carb as well like 160mpt.. even driving it nicely..
Tomorrow I'll do a comp check of all cylinders dry and wet.. Does anyone know what the optimal numbers should be for my engines age and miles?? and what the blueprinted specs should be?
Thanks guys..
