Engine Swap

I'm considering now that maybe I would go about with swaping my 4AF out for a 7AFE. Reason I would go with a 7AFE is because I could continue to use my same 4AF headers and my 4AF cams.. which I spent a lot of money on. I could get the 7AFE, tear it down.. get it bored and honed.. and get a major rebuild kit for it with a new oil pump. Pull my 4AF drop the 7AFE in (with no fitting problems, right?) and all will be all.. Or since, the 7AFE is a longer block than the 4AF.. will I have problems.. weight issues or something?

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I am even considering just getting a late model 4AFE block and doing the build up on that with a 7AFE head.. the later model 4AFE block is actually 7 rib.. Doesn't exactly matter though as I am keeping things N/A.. so I really don't need the extra block strength.

Things to consider is that I for atleast the time being, am keeping my quad carb setup.

you can't use a 4a-f/e header on a 7a-fe.... they're too short... (7a block might be taller... and they use a different oil pan as well)...

and as far as i know, the pattern on the heads are different bolt-up wise between the ae92's and the later 4/7a-fe motors....

Hmm so I gotta stick with my 4AF.. Ok, well I know that the 7AFE head will bolt up to the 4AF.. so that's ok. I might just pick up another 4AF engine then and rebuild it.. but I don't know.. gotta see what the JY has tomorrow.

yeah.... 2 motors the same year the heads are interchangeable.... but i'm pretty sure there's 2 gens of the 4a-fe's..... i've heard the heads on the earlier (including mine... which automatically includes yours) are different from the later years.... so i'm not 100% sure your 4a-fe head would bolt to the block...

but why would you want the 7afe head on your 4af?! why don't you just swap in the 7a-fe... get rid of the intake manifold & bolt up your 4a-f intake/carb setup... then remove all the sensors you don't need...

you can probably get the header lengthened for pretty cheap at a shop if you don't care how it looks....

btw... if you want a spare early model 4a-fe head (ie, mine.. lol) then let me know i'll sell it for cheap (possibly for you to send out & have work done w/o having downtime on the car)

I am putting the 7AFE head in because it has very steep intake ports.. so the head flows a lot better than the 4AF head.
