Ignition timing adjustment..

Uh I just used a timing light to adjust my ignition timing.. which was previously at 22BTDC at 1000rpm parked idle.. Now I set it at 10BTDC at 900rpm.. and my brakes work HORRIBLE!!! That plus the car sounds a lot shittier.. any advice? (carbs)

I don't have vacuum advance connected.. any advice on this with the timing?

My advice: since you don't have the vacuum advance connected, you'll need to set the timing more advanced than 10º BTDC... as far ahead as you can without pinging problems.... Which brings me to my question.... why would you disconnect the vacuum advance?
