Bulb question

Does the US AE92 sedan use H4 bulbs or 9006's?

This is from the Canadian AE92's owner's manual

Sedan uses 9004's - 65/45w
Coupé uses 6052's - 65/35w

Ok, so how hard would it be to get a H4 to fit into a US housing?

Volkswagen Vanagon 9004 to H4:
http://www.fastforward.ca/Lights/Van...%20to%20H4.pdf

says something about the headlight switch not beeing able to take the extra juice. They suggest installing a relay to resolve this.

Now, that's real nice for Vanagon's, but dunno for a '92? I see the fuse box has one 10A fuse per headlight...

Asides from that, seems to be mainly a matter of splicing in a different connector.

Well I got H4's on mine, but the problem is they dont have neither the euro or the dot certification on them, so it wont pass inspection here... so I gotta get something with either markings on them

i thought DOT was irrelevant as far as lights were concerned?
so long as they're not too powerfull that is.

You could paint a "dot approved" logo on the housing, no?

Wait a sec... So, your fancy carbs and all are OK, but headlamp housings are not?

No way you'l partly dis-assemble your car each time you have an inspection?
