89 leaking oil from speedo cable

Arrgh!! this is driving me nuts, my 89 corolla started leaking gear oil under the dash out from the speedometer cable, I did some research and first replaced the o rings on the speedometer cable assembly and gear housing, then I replaced the speedometer cable and still same thing... oil is working its way up from the transaxle through the cable and dripping all over the brake pedal and floor ....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the seal at the tranny end is bad (you will probably need to remove the speedo drive gear and replace the oring). and that is gear oil coming through the cable... it does happen...

since i wrote that before i read the whole post.... you might want to try and get a new oring from toyota (of if thats what you did try getting a slightly larger oring) and also cleaning up the edges where the speedo drive gear sits in the tranny.

Which cable did you replace? the ae92's use a 2 piece cable... an upper and a lower.... the lower one being only about 12" long and attaches to the tranny directly.
