"high-perfomance" Corolla timing belts ?

I keep hearing about Corolla timing belts breaking after about 150k+ miles.

When I bought my '91 wagon the seller (an import-nut) and his son wouldn't let it leave their shop until they put a new timing belt in it even though it only had 121,000 on it when I purchased it in November 2002.

The guy made me watch 'em put the belt in and said, "
It's just better for me if I do it know - that way you don't accuse me of selling ya a lemon."

My 1986 NovaRolla timing belt quit at about 198,000 and my mechanic-buddy said that was a rather long life for a Corolla belt.

Does anyone make a "high-perfomance", "heavy-duty" or "extended-life" timing belt for the Corolla ?

What length of belt life-spans have you guys observed ?

I apologize if this question is sorta like someone asking,
"Does anyone make headers for small block Chevy?" but here in the redneck part of the world there's not a lot of import-savvy guys.

Thanks ! Dwayne

Any timing belts should break after 150k+ miles.

No such thing as special timing belt.

It's all made of rubber, unless you get one made in carbon fibre, maybe it'll last twice as long.

don't know what engine you have, but timing belts were meant to be changed after a certain interval, OEM Toyota will be your best bet for quality

Timing belts are usually suggested to be changed at every 100,000km/60,000Mi

Yep.. I actually hit 300,000km today on my car, so I'll be looking into timing belt/water pump replacement. My car has the actual Km's marked on the side of the motor when the belt was replaced the last 2 times.. 99,000 the first time, and 198,000km the second time.

Like I said.. its "recommended" by Toyota and other manufacturers that you change your TB's at every 100,000km/60,000mi but its really up to you whether you want to change it or not. It will really depend on the condition of the belt and how you treat your engine as to how long the belt will last. I've seen cars go almost 150,000 km before the TB broke.. by then its too late, so better be safe than sorry.

Yup.. it's not that hard to change it.. It takes a good few hours.. but isn't that hard.. This is why a lot of your domestics actually use chains.. they last the life of the engine normally.. and don't pose a threat of slipping. Toyota engines are non-interference so if the belt does slip it's not like you're gonna run into valves slapping pistons.. unless u run high lift cams. But I like to change mine every 50-70K.. do all the belts at the same time as well as the water pump.. While you are in there it's just easy to get it all done and outta the way.
