Question 4ag, 4age, or 4agze?

Ok here is the deal. I am looking to purchase an 87 AE86. As this is going to be a drift/race car, I am looking to turbo charge the engine. I have been reading about the 4agze and the 4age (which are the focus of attention at this point). So the question remains, 4ag, 4age or a 4agze for this application? Personally I haven't experienced enough of each engine mechanically to say which is the best. So I am hoping that you people may post some information reguarding this topic. Honestly, what is the difference between both 20v 4age and 4agze motors?

I'm not used to engines that rev up fast and can withstand hours of abuse and high rpms. I'll say that i'm shooting for 280+hp

I would go with the 4agze. the pistions are already low compression so you would be able to boost more. and if you get the ae92 and up 4agze the block is alot stronger.

may i suggest u read some FAQ's and learn more about engines before posing such a question......what u wrote didnt make sense: "4ag, 4age or a 4agze for this application.".. what? so ur corolla is not a gt-s? why bother considering it?...and why ask "4ag or 4age" u may as well have it put "should i buy a hachiroku or an 86"

that aside, the point of the corolla is not it's power....so you shouldnt worry too much in that department. drive one, have fun with it...

use search and look up "4ag" and "ae86" and read up the posts...we have some threads that have information that u require

Yes, the car is a Corolla GT-S, I have my eyes set on one with no engine. That's why I ask, since i am going to be replacing the engine anyhow, why not go all out and turbo charge it and such. I don't need any comments on my experience with this car or my knowlege of engines, I just need an answer reguarding which motor from toyota is best for high performace. Especially seeing as there are straight aways on the track i will be driving this beast on, it would be nice to have a lot of power to carry myself the the next corner. Sorry for not specifying. I have owned many Nissan and Hondas, but ever since I have driven a few GT-S Corollas and Celicas, I have become very interested with Toyota. I am just looking for an honest opinion, and people who have actually done engine swaps before are definately welcome to leave their input here.

280hp is gonna be too much.... with an ae86... and talking about "drift" you need a very well balanced car.... 280 is WAY overkill.... most of the drifters in japan (that i've read about... no like i've been there or anything) have under 200hp 4a-ge's under the hood.....

This car aint a fuking Civic my friend.. you can just drop this here, add this there, and hope the motor will give you 280hp.. aftermarket parts for these cars are very hard to find, and often very expensive mostly imported from Japan so whatever you learned in Honda camp ain't gonna apply in Hachiroku land my friend. Just an honest opinion here.

all these spammers......give the guy a break... just tell him to use the Search bottom more often

AE86 is the most popular car used amongst the drifters, the reason why? its cheap, well balanced from front to rear 50/50 weight distribution, its a FR, more control when you exit corners. enough Torque on the engine for it to move the chassis.

you can have Stock engine on the car and you can still drift, all you need is a LSD.

but in my personnal opinion, i would rather go for nissan or Hondas, not neccesary to drift, but their suspension set up is lot better than Toyotas.

but i still love my AE92.....Mac strut, 4AGE, FF, 4 wheel disc brake, looks alot nicer than AE86...... what can i say, everybody has their own opinion on cars, its just, there not enuff ppl out there taht forgive other ppls different opinion.

By the way? have you driven a car with manual tranny in the snow with bald tires????? well.....if you put 280Hp engine on AE86, thats how it feels like.....going nowhere.

You don't really need an lsd to drift. To prolong it...yes, to drift...no.

Only toyota's can have short shifters.. it's a special device that goes in the engine to make it rev faster.

You have a LOT more to learn before you can expect to build up a "really" nice car, if you don't want to spend 3x as much in the learning process.

short shifter is just a device that makes the throw of the shifter shorter than it normally is.
