Hood Insulation

I saw a posting on here a long time ago were the question was being asked on whether the Hood Insulation can be removed.

My Uncle works for Toyota at the Cambridge plant doing quality control for new rola's. He advised me that the insulation's sole purpose is to dampen sound from the engine nothing else.

The hood insulations plays more than just ONE role:
1. To dampen the engine noice (ok )
2. To ensure that teh hood paint doesn't fade...(i think this is more practical, since it does get pretty hot under the hood).
3. It acts like a firesafety thingie..the insulation falls on an eventual fire, give passangers more time to vacate the car....It sounds too foolish, but might make sense to people with KIDS in car seats!

I quized my uncle on both points 2 and 3 because I had thought the same thing espically with number 2. I was told that it wouldn't make a difference.

Now if we were driving North American cars I would say that it was there for that..but it's a Toyota , I have never heard of a car fire in a Toyota.
