Red face Corolla wipers

Help! I have an old Corolla 1991. The window wiper on the drivers side no longer functions. When I manually move it it is "limp" and easy to move. I am sure the arm connectiong the wipers is broken or not connected.

Any clues where I accsess this? I partially removed the plastic grill in front of the window (from which the wiper mounters portrude) but it seems the mounters go under the space covered by the grill. If that is so then I possibly need to remove the dashboard to reach the wiper mechanism. Can this be true?

I have to take the car to the yearly Goverment inspection next Friday, and have to fix this before that time!

Gee Thanks..... I know I either have to remmove the plastic in front or the dashboard. Removing the dashboard is a few hours work and I want to be sure it's neccesary before I start. Surely sombody oth there knows this!

I already am a couple of months late for the inspection and have to hide tha car from the police...

there should be a bolt at the bottom of the wiper covered by a round plastic, check the bolt might be loose. mine was like that until I tighten the screws now its fine.

Easy fix

I removed the plastic grill behind the wipers and saw the connecting rod between the wipers clearly. Easy fix. Total tme from start to finish was about 40 minutes.

The original plastic cap used was worn out, so I just replaced it with a washer. Should hold up at least untill after the inspection!

Lets hope you pass the MOT... but ireland is quite rainy so I'd think you'd need the wipers more than just for the MOT.

Iceland - not Ireland

It's similar to the MOT, only run by faceists...

When I only had one wiper what I did was move it slightly so that it started wiping higher up on the windshield. That way the passenger side wiper went all teh way over the drivers part of the window... Sort of like the singel wiper system on the Mercedes Benz.

Must say that two wipers beat one any day!

MOT (Icelandic equivilent result)

At the time of writing 125 have read my post so I guess you deserve to know the result of the MOT examination.

The Corolla passed without any problems. Considering I put more than 2 kilos of P38 and P40 into rust spots, partially sprayed the car and fixed about a dozen items the former owner had neglected I am quite happy with that. Since it's a Friday I might even celbrate (without the car of course).
