changing light bulbs...

Hi all. I just got a 2000 L Touring 4wd Corolla wagon. Its is an AE104 body type. There is a series of lights on the display which shows which gear the car is in. One of the bulbs is blown, does anyone know how to change this bulb and what type of bulb would be required?

Also the bulb on the Center Diff lock switch appears to be blown as well, does anyone know how to change this bulb also?

Thanks

Well I already replied to the first part on another forum, but the second part is fairly simple... I don't know which size bulb it takes, but you can get one from the Toyota dealer. It's either the larger size like in the defogger and hazard switches, or the smaller one like the A/C switch.

First, to remove the right hand vent, you can basically turn the vent downward, get a grip on it, and pull straight out. Otherwise, you can use the screwdriver hole at the bottom to pry the bottom retainers loose. Then, unplug the harnesses from the power mirror, defogger, and differential lock switches. Separate the diff lock switch by using a screwdriver to push in the tabs at the sides and push the switch out the back of the trim panel. Now, on the top or bottom, you should be able to see a grey or orange round plastic head with a phillips head on it. It may be covered by a silver round sticker. Use a phillips head screwdriver to turn it counterclockwise, then pull straight out. That last part may take some coaxing if it's the smaller type of bulb. It may have a blue bulb cover on it. Take it to your Toyota dealer and ask for a replacement.

Thanks Dude.

I figured it was that, but I wanted to make sure.

Which forum did you post the answer to the first part?

Thanks

Wow, I'm surprised that they would use that large of a bulb in the switch, but that's probably a good thing since the ones in the gear indicators are much easier to get.

Actually, its a very small bulb in both cases. This bulb has a twist lock base built into it. It is not the capless bulb used for the other lights in the instrumentation display.

The bulb and base is about 5mm with a plastic base, designed to lock the bulb in place. I'll try to get a picture of the bulb for you.
